By opening the STAR Refinery, Turkey and Azerbaijan have taken their brotherly ties to next level, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Friday.
Erdoğan hailed the refinery's role in localizing industrial facilities in Turkey.
The project is reportedly one of the biggest investments in the private sector in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa in recent years.
Azerbaijani oil company SOCAR opened the oil refinery in the Turkish Aegean coastal city of Izmir.
Erdoğan and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev attended the opening ceremony along with top officials from both sides.
Erdoğan also called on the international community to speak up about the Karabakh dispute between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Aliyev in his turn lauded Erdoğan, saying that Turkey has become a major global power under his leadership.
