‘We're leaving office, but we're not leaving the fight,' Biden says in farewell remarks at Joint Base Andrews after departing Washington
Joe Biden said in his farewell address Monday that he is leaving the office but "we're not leaving the fight."
"We have a lot more to do," Biden said at Joint Base Andrews before boarding a plane with former first lady Jill Biden, referencing newly sworn-in Donald Trump's inaugural address, which sharply criticized the Biden administration while outlining his plans for his return to office.
"We're leaving office, but we're not leaving the fight," he said. "You're smart, you're skilled, you're passionate, and the country needs you again."
The former president urged staffers to remain "engaged," whether in the public or private sector, academia or running for office.
President Donald Trump was sworn in for a second term earlier, heralding a major shift in the US government widely expected to send shockwaves through American society and the world.
"The golden age of America begins right now," Trump said minutes after taking the oath of office during a ceremony held within the Capitol Rotunda. It was the first indoor inauguration since 1985 when Ronald Reagan moved the ceremony inside due to exceptionally frigid temperatures.
