Türkiye sees 1.48M house sales in 2024

Foreigners bought 23,781 houses in Türkiye last year, with Russian buyers topping list

In 2024, 1.48 million houses were sold in Türkiye, up 20.6% from 2023, the country's statistics authority TurkStat said on Tuesday.

Istanbul, the country's most populous city, had the lion's share of housing sales with 16.2% or 239,213 units last year, followed by the capital Ankara (134,046 or 9%) and the Aegean city of Izmir (80,398 or 5.43%).

Housing sales to foreigners fell 32.1% in 2024 on a yearly basis to 23,781 units.

Istanbul ranked first in sales to foreigners last year with 8,416, followed by the Mediterranean resort city of Antalya with 8,223 and then Mersin, also on the Mediterranean, with 2,112.

Russian citizens bought 4,867 houses in Türkiye in 2024, followed by Iranian citizens with 2,166 and Ukrainian citizens with 1,631.

The number of mortgage sales fell 10.8% to 158,486 units in 2024, while other house sales totaled 1.32 million, up 25.9%.

Some 484,461 housing units sold last year were new, while 993,564 were pre-owned.

In December alone, house sales in the country increased 53.4% to 212,637 units.
