Returning to Oval Office, US president starts signing executive orders on his first day
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order Monday to pardon defendants charged in the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol.
"I think this order will apply to approximately 1,500 people," Trump said at the Oval Office.
Trump was sworn in for a second term, heralding a major shift in the US government that is widely expected to send shockwaves through American society and the world.
"Tonight, I'm going to be signing on the J- 6 hostages' pardons to get them out. And as soon as I leave, I'm going to the Oval Office and we'll be signing pardons for a lot of people," he announced before returning to the Oval Office.
