Murat Ertekin, who worked as a 4th degree police chief in the Ankara Gölbaşı Special Operations Department Headquarters, ran to his workplace as soon as he heard about the coup attempt. Ertekin was known for loving his job and fought terrorism many times while working in the southeast. He was wounded in a bomb attack that occurred in Nusaybin 1 month before the coup attempt. He reached martyrdom before his previous wounds from the bomb had healed.
Ertekin, who was originally from Sivas, was 47 years old and married. Ertekin had a 13 year old son named Furkan and a 20 year old daughter named Rümeysa. He was unable to talk to his family again after he left the house on the night of the coup attempt. Ertekin was martyred by the first bomb that dropped on the Special Operations Headquarters at 11:37 AM. The martyr’s family received the devastating news in the morning.
He was a ghazi before he became a martyr
The martyr had fought terrorism in many places like Hakkari, Nusaybin and Şemdinli. Ertekin was injured in his foot after a bomb attack in Nusaybin, one month before his death. He came to Ankara to receive medical treatment. Ertekin was martyred before his wound could heal. He loved his country and children.
His body was buried in the Police Martyrs’ Yukarı Tekke Graveyard after the funeral which was held in the Kale Mosque in Sivas.
The name of martyr Murat Ertekin was given to an Anatolian Imam Hatip high school in Sivas.
