The High Council of Judges and Prosecutors held an extraordinary meeting in the first hours of the morning, after the FETÖ’s treacherous coup attempt, and announced that it had canceled the leave of all judges and prosecutors. The council started implementing the injunctions that were made against FETÖ-linked judges and prosecutors. Within this framework, the 2nd Chamber of the High Council of Judges and Prosecutors dismissed many judicial staff and disclosed the names of suspended judges and prosecutors in the judicial justice.

The Ankara Public Prosecutor's Office, which launched an investigation into FETÖ's coup attempt, sent a letter to the chief public prosecutors of all heavy criminal requesting that a total of 2,745 judges and prosecutors serving in administrative and judicial jurisdictions that were "found to be members of the same hierarchy", should be taken into custody and investigated.

Since the 1980’s, judicial institutions have become FETÖ’s most strategic targets of infiltration activities as it attempted to seize control over the government. Once within the judiciary, a member of FETÖ would mentor and assign judges and prosecutors, and during the 2000s, they would sign on a large number of operations.

As part of the investigation launched after the Fetullah Terror Organization’s (FETÖ) coup attempt, the house of Constitutional Court member Erdal Tercan was searched in line with the prosecution office’s ruling. He was detained by the Department of Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime teams.
