Gendarmerie Brigadier General Ali Osman Gürcan was detained and arrested. Gürcan was the highest-ranking officer who was detained after the coup attempt. Minutes after this news was reflected in the press, 1st Army Operations Head Brigadier General Eyüp Gürler and Istanbul Gendarmerie Commander Gürcan Sercan were detained as well.
As part of the investigation initiated against the Fetullah Terror Organization’s (FETÖ) coup attempt by the Public Prosecutor of Ankara, detention decisions were made against 140 Court of Cassation members and 48 Council of State members on charges of being terror organization members. Among them, 11 Court of Cassation members and four High Council of Judges and Prosecutors members were detained.
