Martyr Halil Hamuryen came home after he finished work at the Ankara Gölbaşı Special Operations Department Headquarters on July 15th. He tucked his 3-year-old son into bed and started resting when he was called back to work, upon the coup attempt by FETÖ members.
His cousin Orhan Hamuryen called Halil Hamuryen after he heard about the bombing of Gölbaşı. His cousin told Hamuryen, “I’m fine. They have bombed this area. They called me to work. My battery is about to die. I’ll call you back.” Hamuryen’s family was not able to hear from him after the second bombing and they decided to go to Gölbaşı in the morning. They waited at Gölbaşı for two days. Orhan Hamuryen could not find the name of the martyr on the death list at the Gölbaşı Morgue. The Hamuryen family started calling all the morgues in Ankara to find Halil. They were finally able to track down Halil’s body as a result of the blood sample taken from him amongst 19 other non-identified bodies.
Halil Hamuryen was brought to Erciş, Van on Tuesday, July 19th and was buried with the tears of his loved ones. Five thousand people attended the funeral of Hamuryen, who was buried along with chants of “God is the greatest.”
