Selim Cansız removed the plaster cast on his foot to defend his country. He was martyred in front of the General Staff Headquarters by traitors.
He didn’t mind his foot
Cansız removed the plaster cast on his foot, did his ablutions and left his house on the call of President Erdoğan, after hearing of the coup attempt by the putschists. He went to the General Staff Headquarters along with two friends. He was shot by putschists and was martyred around 06:10 AM after spending the night severely injured in the hospital.
The construction worker left behind his 3 year old daughter. He was buried in the Karşıyaka Graveyard after the funeral which took place in the Karşıyaka Mosque in Ankara.

The General Staff building under occupation
One of the first targets attacked by the putschist soldiers in Ankara was the General Staff Headquarters. Armed with tanks, putschists started shooting at civilians who rushed to the General Staff Headquarters. With orders “to retalliate,” police crews launched an operation against the putschists, during which helicopters that arrived at the scene provided support. Many civilians were martyred in front of the General Staff Headquarters, and clashes lasted until the morning hours.

FETÖ soldiers raided the General Staff Command on the night of the coup attempt and took Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar hostage. Tanks and helicopters then started firing into the crowd that had gathered around the quarters. Akar was rescued within the next few hours and brought to Çankaya Palace.
