Recep Büyük resisted the putschists on the Bosphorus Bridge, where the conflicts were the most intense, during the malicious coup attempt on July 15th. He was martyred by a bullet fired by a sniper that hit him in the lower-right area of his chest.

Leaving for the Bosphorus Bridge with his younger brother Harun Büyük, upon President Erdoğan’s call, Recep stood against tanks and bullets. Targeted by snipers, he was shot in the lower-right part of his chest at 02:45. He was then rushed to the hospital and talked to his brother until he was taken to surgery. He asked his brother, “Did you let my father know?” While his family was expecting him to recover from the operation, Recep was martyred. Recep was 37 years old and operated a market.

He was buried in in Karacaahmet Cemetery on July 17th.

News of one of the bloodiest nights in Turkey, the July 15 coup attempt, first spread with the disturbance on the Fatih Sultan Mehmet and Bosporus Bridges. Citizens realizing that both bridges were occupied by traitor FETÖ soldiers resisted, saying: “We won’t surrender this land to you”, on the call of President Erdoğan to the public to claim the streets.
