Onur Kılıç was one of the young people who ran onto the streets to resist against FETÖ’s traitors. He was with his uncle, cousin, and friends on the night of July 15th. Kılıç was martyred by a bullet to his heart, while he was defending his country. He felt devastated after seeing the shootings in Turkmen Mountain and wanted to go to those places and fight.
The 23 year old was from Rize. He worked as a taxi driver and traded cars. Kılıç always admired President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. His uncle Kenan Kılıç, said Onur would follow the president on the internet and television and had a special admiration for him. On the night of the coup attempt, Onur Kılıç headed to the Bosporus Bridge with his uncle and friends and separated from the group later. He was martyred at 03.30 AM.
“We live in peace here, they are fighting for their country there”
The martyr’s uncle Kenan Kılıç said that his relationship with his nephew was like a relationship of two friends rather than an uncle-nephew relationship. Kenan Kılıç added that Onur told him, “I want to go fight in the Turkmen Mountain. I am grieving here. We live in peace here, but they are fighting for their country there.” Onur went into the streets on the night of the coup attempt without any hesitation.
The martyr’s father Zeki Kılıç, said the last time he talked to his 23 year old son was the night of July 15th. Onur asked his father to renounce his rights, “Father, our government is in trouble. They are attempting a coup. I’m going to defend my country. Renounce your rights upon me in this.” When talking about his son’s martyrdom, his father said, “Thank God, I would be willing to give more sons of mine for my country.”
Martyr Onur Kılıç was buried in Ümraniye, Istanbul on Sunday, July 17th.
