One of the youngest martyrs of July 15th, 21-year-old, Martyr Mustafa Avcu went to Kızılay right after he performed the isha prayer. He was a second grade student at the Department of Civil Engineering at the Gazi University. The student was martyred after being shot in the heart by tanks in front of the General Staff Building.
Originally from Çorum, Mustafa was the youngest son of the family. He was 21 years old and had two older brothers.
He went to Kızılay with his friends right after finishing his isha prayer. It was at Kızılay that Avcu was shot and martyred, according to his friend, he drew his last breath reciting God’s name.
“My Mustafa wanted so much to become a martyr”
His father, Southeast Veteran Ayhan Avcu talked about that night as follows, “I went to the General Staff Building with Mustafa. They started shooting as we were trying to get inside the General Staff Building. He was shot and martyred there. My Mustafa wanted so much to become a martyr, he wanted to die sinless, and God accepted his prayers. After the month of Ramadan, he said to his mother, ‘Ramadan is over, we are sinless, it is the best time to die, mother.’ He had no wordly plans.”
Martyr Mustafa Avcu, achieved his desire of becoming a martyr on the night of July 15th. He was buried in his hometown of Çorum on Monday July 18th.
The name Martyr Mustafa Avcu was given to a fine arts high school located in Çorum.
