One of the places the putschist FETÖ members attacks were the most intense was the Acıbadem neighborhood of Istanbul. Putschists tried to seize the Telekom building and shot at people who resisted against them. The Acıbadem District Headman, Mert Sertbaş, was shot from close range as he was trying to resist putschist soldiers. Soldiers prevented Sertbaş from receiving first aid and he died a martyr’s death on the spot.
The headman was trying to convince putschist soldiers who were trying to seize the Türk Telekom building in their neighborhood. The vicious FETÖ members shot Sertbaş from close range and did not allow people to aid him. Mete Sertbaş was not taken to the hospital and lost his life on the spot.
Death order from the putschist Major
It was found out that Major Mehmet Karabekir shot Headman Sertbaş. The traitor Major gave the order to “Shoot at the people, don’t hold back” via WhatsApp on the night of the coup attempt.
He was injured in the shootout in front of the Türk Telekom building. He was then captured by Special Operations police officers as he was trying to flee with a tank.
The martyr Sertbaş, who was from Erzincan, was a father of two. He was married to his wife Rahşan Sertbaş and worked as a headman in the Acıbadem neighborhood of Istanbul. Sertbaş used to run a small market before he was a headman. He also had a dry cleaning and real estate business. Sertbaş was also a relative of the Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım.
Sertbaş’s body was buried in the Karacaahmet Graveyard after the funeral held in the Karacaahmet Şakirin Mosque.
The name of Martyr Mete Sertbaş was given to a middle school in the Acıbadem neighborhood in Üsküdar where he was the Headman and where he died as a martyr.
