44-year-old rank-2 police commissioner Meriç Alemdar, who fell a martyr at the Ankara Gölbaşı Special Operations Headquarters on July 15, was martyred during an airstrike by F-16s under the control of the putschists. The martyr’s wife Fadime Alemdar, who is a police officer like him, received the news of his martyrdom with fortitude. Additionally, Deniz Alemdar, who was the former chief commissioner at Milas District Police Department, was a brother of Meriç Alemdar.
The martyr, whose house was within walking distance of that Gölbaşı Special Operations Headquarters, was buried in the Gölbaşı Police Cemetery, after his family asked for God’s blessings.The martyr’s children, Yusuf Tuna Alemdar and Pelin Alemdar, who attended the funeral in police uniforms, accepted condolences without leaving their father’s body.
Meriç Alemdar’s father, Ali Alemdar, who was getting lung cancer treatment, died at the hospital, before hearing the news of his son’s martyrdom.
The martyr’s name was given to a primary and a middle school in Ankara Gölbaşı.The martyr’s wife Fadime Alemdar, who gave a speech during the ceremony, stated, “All I expect from the youth is to be honest like him, and hardworking and succesful like him. I want the youth to protect and look after this people, this flag. They shall be fearless, they shall read books and sports, like Meriç Alemdar.”
