Mehmet Kocakaya, who was martyred 3 days before his birthday, worked as a security officer. Kocakaya went to the General Staff Headquarters on the night of July 15th. He said to his mother, “I’m burning inside, mother. Our soldiers are dying. I will be a martyr too.”
22 year old Mevlüt Kocakaya, who was one of the youngest martyrs in bloody coup attempt, went to the General Staff Headquarters to resist against the putschists along with his friends at midnight. Kocakaya died as a martyr and his friend became a ghazi.
"Mom, I’m going to be a martyr"
Mehmet Kocakaya called his mother around 02:00 AM and said, “I’m burning inside, mother. Our soldiers are dying. I’ll be a martyr too.” Mehmet, who was martyred by the putschists’ shooting at people from helicopters, was going to be 23 on July 19th. His mother Meral Kocakaya said that she sees her son in her dreams as cheerful, and added, “He died a martyr’s death for his country and nation, thank God.”
The martyr Kocakaya always wanted to be a martyr. When he visited his grandfather’s grave, he said to him, “We will be with you, grandfather.” Kocakaya was buried in the Karşıyaka Graveyard in Ankara on July 17th.
The name of Martyr Mehmet Kocakaya was given to a science high school in Alaca, Çorum.
