Emin Güner was a 46 year old businessman from Ankara. He went into the streets after the call of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Güner tried to take control of a tank that was being driven by a putschist soldier. The soldier fought and Güner resisted, even though he was left hanging on to the tank for 4 kilometers. He died as a martyr after his neck broke from the soldiers driving the vehicle he was hanging on to too quickly.
Güner, father of a 4 year old girl, was among the citizens who managed to escape after placing stones in the tracks of a tank moving towards the AK Party Headquarters and spraying its windows.
4 kilometers on a tank
Another tank carrying FETÖ members was seized by Emin Güner and 5 other people. However, when a putschist soldier got inside and started driving the tank, Güner and 5 other people started to struggle to stay with the tank. A couple of real patriots managed to jump off the tank, which was moving really fast. And the other patriot showed a real example of courage by going inside the tank to try and eliminate the putschist controlling it, but was then shot in 3 places.
“Martyrdom is the last destination”
Güner, who was left alone on the tank, resisted for 4 kilometers by hanging on to the “barbette”. The coup soldier moved the barbette too quickly and Güner’s neck was broken due to the impact on his head. Emin Güner died a martyr’s death at 00:40 on the scene.
İlknur Güner, wife of the martyr who knew that her husband went into the streets to fight against the traitorous soldiers, texted her husband at 01:42 but did not receive a reply. İlknur Güner said her husband wanted to be a martyr and added, “He always told me that it was the last destination. I saw my husband in my dream after he was martyred. He showed me a place that was not in this world. He told me there were beautiful places.”
“My hero father…”
Güner said their daughter always called her father “My hero father” and added, “My daughter cries sometimes. We tell her that her father is a martyr now. Since she doesn’t understand abstract concepts, we can’t explain to her what martyrdom is. We tell her that her father is a hero.”
Güner was buried in Karşıyaka Graveyard after his funeral, which was held in Ankara at the Karşıyaka Mosque. Güner, who was martyred at 46, had a 4-year-old daughter. Güner graduated from the METU Physics department and owned the Digital Radyoloji Sistemleri Limited Company.
The name of Martyr Emin Güner was given to an Imam Hatip middle school in Iğdır.
