U.S. President Barack Obamas Special Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter Daesh, Brett McGurk said on Wednesday that all units of the terror group People's Protection Units (YPG) will depart from the northern Syrian city of Manbij.
His statement comes a day after Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army forces entered the northern part of the Daesh stronghold al-Bab, which was the last hope for YPG's terror corridor from Hasakah to Afrin.
“Milestone: all YPG units to depart Manbij and return east of Euphrates after local units complete training to maintain security after ISIL [Daesh]," McGurk shared on his official twitter account.
Obama had promised to his Turkish counterpart President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan two months ago that YPG would no longer stay in the city, but had yet to fulfill the obligation.
Turkey repeatedly warned that the YPG terror elements would be targeted by Turkish military, if they don't return to the east of Euphrates as it is a redline for Ankara.
According to the deal, the FSA forces would enter the city without clashing after YPG withdrawal.
