On January 20, U.S. President Joe Biden will hand over the presidency to Donald Trump. Before leaving office, Biden awarded the "Presidential Medal of Freedom" to 19 individuals, including prominent anti-Trump neocon Liz Cheney. In his final days, Biden also submitted an informal notice to Congress for an $8 billion arms deal with Israel. The package includes 2,800 unguided MK-82 bombs, 155mm artillery shells, and Hellfire AGM-114 missiles—munitions extensively used during the genocidal campaigns in Gaza.

According to the Biden administration's notice to the House and Senate Foreign Affairs Committees, some of the munitions could be supplied from existing U.S. military stockpiles. Once the committees approve the package, the State Department will formally notify Congress to initiate the shipment.

These arms transfers to Israel, a state accused of genocide, violate both international treaties and U.S. domestic laws. However, when it comes to Israel, the Biden administration has disregarded all norms, crossing numerous "red lines." Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has openly defied Biden’s supposed red lines with impunity, reveling in the lack of consequences. No U.S. president has been so humiliated by Israel, nor has any president been as complicit in its atrocities.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, while the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the UN’s judicial arm, has brought charges of genocide and occupation against Israel. Despite these significant legal actions, Biden has continued the arms shipments unabated.

The U.S. often portrays itself as the champion of a liberal, rules-based international order. Yet it has made it clear that these rules don’t apply to itself or its ally, Israel. Since taking office, Biden has framed global politics as a contest between democracies and autocracies, casting the U.S. as the leader of democratic forces. However, his actions reveal a willingness to break even his own country’s rules. If you want to understand what "liberal America" looks like in practice, just look at Biden.

Unconditional military support for Israel played a significant role in the Democrats' recent electoral losses. Despite the risk of handing the presidency back to Trump, Biden refused to scale back arms shipments to Israel. Ironically, the Democrats, including vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris, built their campaign on the claim that Trump’s return to power would mark the end of American democracy.

Democrats also argued that Trump’s victory would harm U.S. allies while benefiting its adversaries. Yet for Biden, aiding Israel’s genocidal campaign seems to have taken precedence over all other concerns.

In over half a century of political life, Biden has held some of the most powerful positions in the U.S. government, embodying the moral decay of the American establishment. If a portrait were to be painted of this decay, Biden would be its perfect face.

Even in his rare moments of clarity, Biden seemed driven by an overwhelming compulsion to support Netanyahu. The deaths of over 45,000 people in Gaza, 70% of them women and children, appeared to mean nothing to him. Biden was willing to let the blood of Palestinian infants, children, and women stain the legacy of his single term in office. By enabling Netanyahu’s campaign of mass killing, Biden brought the horrors of “Nightmare on Elm Street” to the streets of Gaza, allowing the "Freddy Krueger" of this saga to target children.

For decades, the U.S.’s unconditional arms support for Israel has been like a never-ending sequel to a horror movie, with “Freddy” changing faces but continuing to kill children in Palestine. While Freddy Krueger is a fictional character, the destruction of Gaza and the slaughter of its children are all too real.

In Gaza, over 17,000 children have been killed, and more than 25,000 have been left without one or both parents. Empowered by unconditional U.S. support, Israel continues its killing spree. As Biden ends his presidency, he seems determined to send even more weapons to facilitate the deaths of more children.

For Joe Biden, whose political career and reputation have come to an end, this marks the point where words fail. The rest is left to the judgment of the "court of humanity."
