Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who is accused of killing hundreds of thousands of people including children with chlorine bombs, said he does sports daily and sleeps fine, despite the continuation of heavy bombardment which is razing almost all the cities.
During an interview with British daily The Sunday Times, Assad said the deaths of around 600,000 civilians was “the fault of terrorists".
While asked about all the children being killed every hour in Aleppo and other parts of Syria, Assad replied “we are talking about war, not charity."
“In war you always have innocents hurt or killed. What do you do?," he told the newspaper.
Over another similar question, Assad laughed and replied: “I know the meaning of that question. I sleep regular, I sleep and work and eat normal and do sports."
Assad claimed that he is doing his best, but “terrorists are still in Aleppo and use civilians as human shields".
“We can't just stand still and say, 'Don't destroy the city'. More important than the city are the people, so we have to do the best for them," Assad said.
His statement comes amid a report on the killing of dozens of civilians in Aleppo by a fresh air offensive of Russian-Syrian planes.
Another Syrian-Russian air strike on a market place in al-Dana in the suburb of Idlib killed dozens, including Syrian Journalist Ammar Bakkor.
Moreover, at least six children were killed and 25 others were injured when regime shelling hit a nursery in an opposition-held suburb in the capital Damascus on Sunday.
The Syrian army and its allies, Russia, Iran and Shi'ite militia groups repeatedly targeted hospitals, medics, aid workers and civilians under the excuse of war against “terrorism".
During the interview, Assad also claimed that the White Helmets group, who were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for their rescue works in the war-torn Syria, manipulated and forged the photos of dead children that shocked the world.
Assad claimed that Syrians only have a choice between him and terrorists.
