Ümit Güder, who became the target of traitors’ bullets and was wounded while fighting to prevent the F-16 jets from taking off from the 4th Main Jet Base Command in the Kazan district of Ankara on the night of July 15th, fell a martyr after 5 days of struggling to survive.
As news spread on the night of July 15th, he went out with his wife Türkan and 17-year-old son Mertcan to the 4th Main Jet Base, to stand up against the coup attempt. Along with other patriots, gathered in front of the base, they tried to prevent fighter jets from taking off. Putschist troops showered bullets on the resisting civilians carrying Turkish flags in their hands. Ümit was wounded with his wife and son. While he was hospitalized at the Private Etimed Hospital, his wife and son were taken to the Hacettepe Hospital.
At 60 years old, Ümit worked as a school bus driver after retiring. He was the father of five children.
Ümit was martyred on July 20th, after 5 days of struggling to survive. Buried at the Kazan Martyrs’ Cemetery, Güder’s wife and son were undergoing medical treatment, and could not attend his funeral.
The name “Martyr Ümit Güder” was given to a middle school in Kahramankazan, Ankara.
