Servet Asmaz

Servet Asmaz became a martyr on the Bosphorous Bridge during the terrible July 15 coup attempt. Hearing about the coup attempt, he spoke with his brother Selahattin on the phone about what must be done. Deciding to go out on the call of President Erdoğan, he went to the Bosphorus Bridge after he spoke with his brother and he was shot only 30 minutes after arriving there.

Hospitalized at the Okmeydanı Hospital, 44-year-old Servet died a martyr at 06:00 in the morning.

Servet Asmaz was a ceramic master from Gümüşhane. He was buried in the Edirnekapı Martyrs Cemetery after the funeral ceremony held on July 17.

Father of three, his family said, “We are proud that he became a martyr; what do we live for anyway? We hope we all become martyrs. Servet was such a paragon of virtue, he would never bother anyone and everyone loved him.”

News of one of the bloodiest nights in Turkey, the July 15 coup attempt, first spread with the disturbance on the Fatih Sultan Mehmet and Bosporus Bridges. Citizens realizing that both bridges were occupied by traitor FETÖ soldiers resisted, saying: “We won’t surrender this land to you”, on the call of President Erdoğan to the public to claim the streets.
