The 35-year-old Orhun Göytan managed a ship agency. Göytan, who got to Acıbadem along with his brother as soon as he heard about the news, was stopped in front of Acıbadem Türk Telekom, by the putschist soldiers. One of the brothers, whose vehicle was fired upon, lost his leg, and the other fell a martyr.
Their father Gültekin Göytan said, “I feel the pain for not one son, but for two. Orhun was managing his ship agency with his brother. That night, my two sons had worked till the late hours, as always. I was in Ayvalık. They called me to say, ‘A revolution is going to happen, father.’ I warned them, ‘I lived it before, son, don’t you ever go out.’ But my older son couldn’t stop his brother, and they both went out because they couldn’t reach their mother. It was a messy situation, so they tried to run away through alleys. And then, they got hit inside their vehicle. Shot with 7 bullets, Orhun lost his life. The other’s leg was amputated. We raised them very well. We educated them abroad, they started a company. We didn’t deserve any of this...”
Veteran Kenan Ulutürk, who lost his leg because of the bullets of the putschists on the night of July 15, studied physics engineering in England. Martyr Orhun Göytan had studied economics at Malta University. The two siblings started their own company after they returned to Turkey.
Martyr Orhun Göytan’s name was given to a primary school in Başakşehir, İstanbul.
