Martyr Nedip Cengiz Eker was one of the police officers who set out to protect President Recep Tayip Erdoğan in Marmaris and was shot by traitorous putschists with automatic weapons. Eker was shot in the assault on the hotel where the President was staying. He reached martyrdom on the spot. The martyr avoided marriage so that nobody would cry after him but it was later revealed that he wanted to have a family later on in life.
The 41 year old was single and from Elazığ. He had a sister and worked as a police officer in Muğla. Nedip Cengiz Eker graduated from the Finance Department of Eskişehir Anatolian University. He later attended police examinations and started working as a police officer after he graduated from the police school in İzmir.
“We raised him pure”
Eker was given the task of protecting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the night of July 15th. He and his team went to the hotel where the president stayed. Putschist soldiers started shooting the hotel at first, then they hid. Putschist soldiers saw the police squad Eker was with approaching and started shooting at them. Police Officer Nedip Cengiz Eker was martyred after the shootout occurred around 03:45 AM. His father, Nihat Eker, said that all of Marmaris cried at his son’s funeral. He also said, “We raised him really pure.”
Martyr Nedip Cengiz Eker was buried in the Efeler district of Aydın on Sunday, July 17th.
The name of martyr Nedip Cengiz Eker was given to a vocational and technical Anatolian high school in Efeler, Aydın and a middle school in Tunceli.
