-Serving as bodyguard of the Istanbul Provincial Police Chief Mustafa Çalışkan, special operations police officer Münir Alkan became a martyr as he was shot on the Martyrs' Bridge on the night of July 15th.
He started his job as a police officer in Istanbul in 1995. After completing his eastern duty in Hakkari in 1999, he continued his duty in Bolu in 2001. Assigned back to Istanbul in 2003, Alkan was martyred while fulfilling his duty to protect the Istanbul Provincial Police Chief Mustafa Çalışkan.
He was 41 years old and married with one child. Münir was buried in the martyrs’ cemetery in the Tekirdağ urban graveyard after his funeral ceremony which was held at Tekirdağ Rüstem Paşa Mosque.
His name was given to a school in Büyükçekmece, Istanbul.
