Muhammed Yalçın, 22 years old and a student at Gazi University School of Physical Education and Sports, was martyred after a bomb dropped in front of the Presidential Palace on the night of the July 15th coup attempt. He was speaking with his father on the phone at the time that he was martyred.
His father Selahattin Yalçın, recalled the events of that night, “I was speaking with my son on the phone. Suddenly, the phone cut off. My connection with my son was lost. Then later we found out that he lost his life.”
Muhammed was buried after his funeral ceremony was held in his hometown of Kazım Karabekir, a district of Karaman, on July 17th.
“I am proud of my son”
Karaman Governorship published books and printed CDs in the memory of the Martyr Muhammed Yalçın and the events that occurred on July 15th. Receiving a book and a CD from the Governor Süleyman Tapsız, Muhammed’s father made a statement, “I gave my son as a martyr for our country and flag on the night of July 15th. I am proud of my son. Our state has always been with us and it still is supportive. I appreciate the efforts of everyone who contributed to publishing this book and printing the CDs.”
The name Martyr Muhammed Yalçın was given to an Anatolian imam hatip high school in his hometown of Karaman.
