Police officer Akif Altay, was martyred in Gölbaşı where the attacks were intense on the night of the July 15th coup attempt.
Akif was temporarily assigned to the Ankara Special Operations Department during his service at Isparta as a Special Operations police officer. He was heavily wounded in the early stages of the coup and was immediately hospitalized at Gazi University Hospital. He was taken to the intensive care unit, yet, lost his life and became a martyr, passing away on Saturday, July 16.
He was 52 years old and the father of three. His family discovered the news of his passing early on the 16th. Originally from the Güvenli Village of Çeltikli County, Akif was buried in the Burdur Martyrs’ Cemetery after the funeral ceremony.
Martyr Akif Altay’s name was given to an elementary school in Isparta.
