'We are working on improvements and will make them available in a future software update,' US tech giant says
US tech giant Apple has suspended an AI-powered feature following a complaint from the BBC.
“With the latest beta software releases of iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS Sequoia 15.3, Notification summaries for the News & Entertainment category will be temporarily unavailable,” a company spokesperson was quoted as saying in a BBC report.
“We are working on improvements and will make them available in a future software update," the spokesperson added.
Apple faced backlash after its AI service sent false news alerts, including one claiming Luigi Mangione, accused of killing a US executive, died by suicide and another stating tennis star Rafael Nadal had come out as gay.
Earlier, Apple had announced plans to update an AI feature in the iOS 18.2 software on its iPhones after false news alerts were recently provided to users.
"We're pleased that Apple has listened to our concerns and is pausing the summarisation feature for news," a BBC spokesperson said.
"We look forward to working with them constructively on the next steps. Our priority is the accuracy of the news we deliver to audiences which is essential to building and maintaining trust," it added.
