A policeman was killed in a bomb blast near Amman on Friday

Suspects in last week’s attack on a police patrol in Jordan support the Daesh terrorist group, the country’s interior minister said Monday.

“Members of the terrorist cell are Jordanians,” Samir Mbeideen told a press conference in Amman.

He said the militants, however, had no proven links with Daesh or any extremist groups abroad.

“Investigations with the detainees are ongoing and revealed other plots for carrying out a series of terrorist attacks,” the minister said.

"The terrorist cell is not organized, but they carry an extremist ideology and they support Daesh," he added.

Government spokeswoman Jumana Ghuneimat, for her part, said Jordan was engaged in a battle against terrorism.

On Friday, a policeman was killed and six security personnel were injured in a bomb blast in the town of Fuheis, west of the capital Amman.

The following day, security forces raided a suspected militant hideout in the town of as-Salt near Amman, during which three militants and four security personnel were killed.
