Mohammed Awad al-Zyoud, the head of Jordan’s Islamic Action Front (IAF), has passed away at the age of 62, al-Zyoud’s son said Friday on Facebook.
Established in 1992, the IAF is the political arm of the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood.
Jordan’s Muslim Brotherhood-linked Al-Yarmouk television channel confirmed al-Zyoud’s death later on Friday.
Local media had reported earlier that al-Zyoud’s health condition had recently deteriorated dramatically amid an ongoing struggle with cancer.
On May 1, the IAF re-elected al-Zyoud as the group’s secretary-general for a second consecutive four-year term.
