New investment to establish plant in southwestern Türkiye for industrial gearbox production
Brazilian energy and automation firm WEG will establish a factory in Türkiye with a €28 million ($29 million) investment to produce industrial gearboxes, a power transmission device used in mechanical systems.
The factory, which will be built in the Aegean province of Manisa, aims to meet growing demand for the product while increasing the production capacity of the firm.
The facility will span an area of 12,000 square meters (roughly 129,170 square feet) and is expected to integrate sales operations with WEG's gearbox factory in Austria and industrial electric motors produced in Türkiye.
WEG Group Türkiye, its domestic subsidiary, currently employs 750 people in the country, with this figure expected to rise by 150 via new job opportunities created by the industrial gearbox factory.
Ahmet Burak Daglioglu, president of the Turkish Presidency's Investment Office, told Anadolu that the country continues to attract foreign investors due to its strategic location, skilled workforce, and strong industrial infrastructure.
Daglioglu noted that WEG previously acquired Türkiye-based Volt Elektrik for $88 million, highlighting the Brazilian firm's position as a leading player in energy technologies and automation.
"The company's decision to build a factory in Türkiye reflects its strong confidence in the country within the global investment ecosystem," Daglioglu said.
"While increasing domestic production capacity, the new factory will positively impact Turkiye in (terms of) technology transfer, while boosting employment, and contributing to exports," he added.
Rodrigo Fumo, WEG's managing director, said in a statement that the growth of the industrial gearbox market in Türkiye and Europe demonstrates optimism, with the recent investment marking a strategic step in expanding the company's sectoral presence.
WEG-made products have been sold in Türkiye for over 20 years through distributors. The company established a local commercial office in 2021 and opened an electric motor factory in the northwestern province of Kocaeli in 2022.
