Rescue teams searching rubble for victims

At least seven people were rescued by teams in Elazig and Malatya provinces after a powerful earthquake hit the area, local sources told Anadolu Agency.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) and National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE) rescued two people in Elazig and two others in Malatya.

The injured were transferred to hospitals.

A person was rescued 12 hours after the earthquake hit the region, bringing the total number of rescued people to seven, local sources said.

At least 20 people were killed and more than 600 injured Friday after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake jolted the region.

Search and rescue operations are searching the rubble for victims.

This is not the first quake to hit Turkey in 2020. A 5.4-magnitude quake jolted western province of Manisa on Wednesday. And Ankara was rattled by a 4.5-magnitude quake Thursday.

A total of 51 people were killed in 2010 when a 6.0-magnitude quake hit Elazig province.
