MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli announces at the year's first caucus that he will vote in favor of the new constitution bill
Devlet Bahçeli, leader of the opposition party MHP, gave an address on Tuesday at the year's first caucus.
Bahçeli announced that he would vote in favor of the major constitutional change package submitted to parliament by the ruling AK Party.
The bill proposing a set of constitutional changes, including a switch to a presidential system of governance, is backed by the ruling AK Party and the MHP, while the CHP has come out against it.
“The target [of terror attacks] is Turkey and our national unity. Terrorist groups like FETÖ, Daesh, PKK/PYD and DHKP-C aim for destruction. Turkey will not be victimized by terrorist attacks. We will topple their games altogether. No child will remain afraid," said Bahçeli.
“Words cannot describe the inhumanity of the Reina massacre. I would like to express my sincere condolonces to the families of the foreign nationals who lost their lives to the bullets of a murderer," he continued.
Reina massacre linked to operation in Al-Bab
Bahçeli also spoke about the Euphrates Shield operation in Al-Bab, Syria.
Referring to the Reina massacre, Bahçeli said “It is clear that it is linked to the operation in Al-Bab, and the negotions between Turkey, Russia and Iran about the ceasefire in Syria. Daesh is a tool. We must unite as one against terrorism," Bahçeli claimed.
Unity in the face of destruction
“We will not allow terrorism to divide us. Whoever is serving polarization, the Turkish people will not fall into that trap. The Turkish people will remain united," said Bahçeli.
“It is not possible to forgive those who promote division. The betrayal of the Turkish people will not go unpunished. Nothing good will come of being divided. Today is the day of unity. Turkey is a peaceful country. Let's root out terrorism," he concluded.
Bahçeli declared his party's support of the government in combating terrorism, saying “MHP will provide full support and cooperation until terrorism is rooted out."
