52-year-old woman dies in hospital from her injuries sustained in Dec. 20 attack that also injured nearly 300 people

The death toll from the Magdeburg Christmas market terror attack has risen to six, authorities said on Monday.

A 52-year-old woman died in hospital from her injuries, a spokesman for the Prosecutor's Office in the city of Naumburg told German Press Agency (dpa).

So far six people have died, including a nine-year-old boy and five women aged 45 to 75, when a man drove a car into a Christmas market on Dec. 20. Nearly 300 people were injured in the terror act.

The accused is a 50-year-old Saudi doctor who is described as anti-Islamic and a supporter of the far right and Zionism.

He came to Germany in 2006 and worked as a psychiatrist in Bernburg, south of Magdeburg, and was recognized as a refugee in 2016.

The question of the suspect's culpability has now become the focus of the investigation, with the Naumburg Public Prosecutor's Office commissioned an expert report to determine whether he is mentally ill, and if so, how.
