Amid ongoing talks between Ankara and Washington officials, US suspends providing guns to Syrian extension of PKK terrorist organization
The United States (US) has suspended providing weapons to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK)- affiliated People's Protection Units (YPG), as talks continue between Ankara and Washington officials on the Raqqa operation to be conducted to sweep Daesh terrorists from the Syrian province.
American Washington post newspaper reported that Washington's suspension decision is due to the ongoing talks with Turkey which is urging the U.S. not to cooperate with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK)-affiliated Democratic Union Party (PYD).
Also, Sputnik website wrote that the motivation of the U.S. to make a decision like that is related to having a sufficient number of weapons for the Raqqa operation.
U.S. officials said that Turkey is trying to form the secure zone in the Azaz- al-Bab and Jarabulus region against terrorist organization Daesh and PYD.
Ankara repeatedly expressed that it wants the Raqqa operation to start after Mosul and Euphrates Shield operations are completed, highlighting the exclusion of any terrorist organization.
"Turkey would do what is necessary with its coalition partners in Syria's Raqqa, but would work with American forces, not terrorists," Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said.
The Euphrates Shield and Mosul Operations in, respectively, Syria and Iraq are being conducted simultaneously to sweep the terrorists from both countries.
