Israeli soldiers arrested a 14-year-old Palestinian boy with Down’s syndrome in the West Bank city of al-Khalil on Friday, as Israeli authorities move to attack protestors criticizing U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Mouhammad al-Taweel was taking part in the protests before he was captured by Israeli soldiers who forced him violently against the shutter of a closed-up shop and body searched him. He was later escorted by the heavily-armed soldiers from the scene.

The scandalous photo was shared widely across social media and was met by outrage from users who decried the inhumane treatment of a disabled child.

Another photo circulated widely on social media websites shows over 20 Israeli soldiers arresting 15-year-old Fawzi al-Junidi in Hebron during clashes that erupted between Palestinians and Israel occupation forces.

Jerusalem remains at the heart of the Israel-Palestine conflict, with Palestinians hoping that East Jerusalem – occupied by Israel in 1967 -- might eventually serve as the capital of a future Palestinian state.

On Wednesday, despite widespread opposition across the Middle East, the U.S. president announced his decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

The dramatic shift in U.S. policy has sparked demonstrations on Thursday in the occupied Palestinian territories, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Iraq and in some other Muslim countries.
