Iceland set to hold general elections on Nov. 30

Iceland is set to hold general elections on Nov. 30, local media reported on Thursday.

A new government and 63 lawmakers for the country's parliament, known as Alpingi, will be elected in the elections, said the public broadcaster RUV.

On Oct. 13, incumbent Prime Minister Bjarni Benediktsson announced the dissolution of the coalition government of the conservative Independence Party, the center-right Progressive Party, and the leftist Greens, citing strong disagreements over migration policy.

The country is currently governed by a caretaker government consisting of MPs from the Independence and Progressive parties but no Greens.

Iceland is divided into six constituencies, including northwest and northeast, south and southwest districts, Reykjavik north, and Reykjavik south.

The general election is open to all Icelandic citizens who are 18 years old at the time of voting and live in Iceland.
