In a joint press conference between Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the ministers announced their ongoing support
Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani discussed regional developments and international issues in a meeting held on Friday.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is due to make an official visit to the Gulf region in an effort to resolve the Qatar crisis, said Çavuşoğlu in a joint press conference.
“One of the main reasons for this visit is the anniversary of the treacherous coup attempt. Another reason is to thank Turkey for its support to Qatar,” said Qatari Foreign Minister Al Thani.
“We want the countries that are implementing this blockade to voice their complaints on a solid basis. These four countries are advocating themselves as nations battling terrorism. Qatar is also battling terrorism,” he continued.
Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt and Yemen cut ties with Qatar, accusing it of supporting terrorism. Doha denies the accusations.
“No evidence has been presented to prove the allegations. Qatar supports constructive dialogue aimed at resolving the crisis,” Al Thani said.
“During this meeting we discussed cooperation between the two countries. The progress of this cooperation between our nations is a matter of great joy,” he said.
