Belgium to meet Japan, England to take on Colombia in World Cup last 16
Belgium toppled England 1-0 in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Group G showdown in Kaliningrad late Thursday, ending the group stage as leaders.
Group G winners Belgium will now play against Group H runners-up Japan in the last 16 phase.
Meanwhile, England will play against Group H winners Colombia.
Belgium won Group G as the Red Devils bagged nine points in three matches.
England completed this stage in the second spot with six points.
Belgian forward Adnan Januzaj, 23, who was the only scorer of the game, was selected as man of the match. In the 51st minute of the match, Januzaj's curved shot beat English goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
In the other match of the group, Tunisia beat Panama 2-1 in Saransk.
Panama were unable to secure 1-0 lead against Tunisia. Tunisian defender Yassine Meriah scored an own goal in the 33rd minute. Tunisia equalized in the 51st minute when forward Fakhreddine Ben Youssef put the ball into Panama net.
FIFA said Ben Youssef scored the 2,500th World Cup goal in history.
Tunisia came back in the 66th minute when Tunisian forward Wahbi Khazri scored the winning goal for his country.
Tunisia won this consolation game against Panama. Both teams have already been eliminated from Russia 2018.
In the Group G standings, Tunisia with three points came third; Panama were in the last spot, they do not have any point when they lost all their matches in this stage.
After Thursday's matches, World Cup's group stage ended.
The tournament's last 16 phase will start on June 30.
