South Africa's Henk Lategan leads general classification in cars and Australia's Daniel Sanders in bikes
The 5th stage of the 2025 Dakar Rally was won by Seth Quintero from the US in cars and Luciano Benavides from Argentina in bikes on Thursday.
In the cars, Seth Quintero of the Toyota Gazoo team achieved the second stage win of the rally with the best time of 4 hours 32 minutes 53 seconds.
Qatar's Nasser Al-Attiyah (Dacia Sandriders), who has five championships in the Dakar Rally, lost the stage win after a 10-minute penalty and had to settle for second place by one second. Sweden's Mattias Ekstrom (Ford M-Sport) finished third, eight seconds behind the leader.
- First stage win for Benavides in bikes
In the bikes, Luciano Benavides of the Red Bull KTM team won the first stage with a time of 4 hours 53 minutes on Thursday.
Frenchman Adrien Van Beveren (Monster Energy Honda), who was given a two-minute penalty, was second by 47 seconds and Chilean Jose Ignacio Cornejo (Hero) was third, 1 minute and 31 seconds behind.
Australian Daniel Sanders (Red Bull KTM) maintained his position at the top of the general classification with a time of 30 hours 20 minutes 15 seconds, 7 minutes 2 seconds ahead of Spain's Tosha Schareina (Monster Energy Honda).
Stage 5 of the 47th Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia was held on the 428-kilometer course between the cities of Alula and Hail.
The 6th stage of the Dakar Rally will be held on Saturday, on the 605-kilometer course between the cities of Hail and Al Duwadimi after a one-day break.
The 2025 Dakar Rally will end in the city of Shubaytah on Jan. 17.
