Adm. Kevin Lunday, Coast Guard's acting commandant, announces surge of Coast Guard assets to key US maritime borders

The US Coast Guard referred to the "Gulf of America" in a press release Tuesday following President Donald Trump's executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico.

In the release, acting commandant Adm. Kevin Lunday announced that the Coast Guard would surge assets to key US maritime borders, including the newly named Gulf of America.

The operation aims to enhance efforts in preventing illegal migration, drug smuggling and other hostile activities along US borders.

In a news conference before his inauguration, Trump first brought up the change,, saying: “A short time from now, we are going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico,” saying the phrase “Gulf of America” has “a beautiful ring.”
