Izmir Governor Erol Ayyıldız said that the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) is thought to be behind the Izmir terror attack according to initial data.
He said the car stopped in front of the courthouse and a clash with the police began just before the car bomb was detonated.
"The assailants were armed with Kalashnikov rifles and grenades," according to Ayyıldız.
The governor said that two were martyred and over five people, including two in serious condition, were wounded.
"Police discovered another explosive-laden vehicle and detonated it in a controlled environment," Governor added.
The governor's statement came after an explosive-laden car bomb martyred a police officer and a courthouse employee and killed two terrorists in the western Turkish province of Izmir on Thursday.
