China has detected cases of norovirus at a school in the coastal city of Shanghai, state media reported on Wednesday.
The cases were detected after some students experienced nausea and vomiting at a middle school in the Fengxian district in the biggest Chinese city and subsequent epidemiological investigation found the students fell ill due to the virus.
While the treatment of the affected individuals has been underway, the district health authority said the situation was “stable, and no severe cases have been reported.”
“With spring being a peak season for infectious diseases, the school will further enhance preventive measures for students,” the local education authority noted.
Also known as stomach flu" or the "stomach bug,” norovirus is a very contagious virus that causes vomiting and diarrhea.
Norovirus causes acute gastroenteritis, an inflammation of the stomach or intestines.
