Russia accuses Poland of ‘destroying relations' after sabotage claims over Warsaw shopping center fire

Russia on Monday pledged to respond after Poland revoked the permission for the Russian Consulate General in Krakow to operate, citing alleged involvement of Russian intelligence in a recent arson attack in Warsaw.

“In connection with evidence that it was Russian special services who committed the reprehensible act of sabotage against the shopping center on Marywilska Street, I have decided to withdraw consent for the operation of the consulate of the Russian Federation in Krakow,” Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski announced on X.

Polish authorities linked the May 11 fire at a major shopping complex in the capital to suspected sabotage by Russian operatives.

Responding to the move, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said: “Warsaw continues to deliberately destroy relations, acting against the interests of citizens. An adequate response to these inadequate steps will follow soon.”

Russia has not officially addressed the sabotage allegations but accuses Poland of escalating tensions.
