‘Israeli Air Force detected about 10 rockets launched from Lebanese territory towards Haifa, hitting several buildings directly,' says army

At least five people were injured after rockets were launched from southern Lebanon toward Haifa in northern Israel, the Israeli national ambulance service, (MDA) reported Saturday.

“MDA teams are applying medical treatment and evacuating 5 victims who were mildly injured on their way to shelter,” it said on X.

The Israeli military announced in a statement that several buildings in Haifa were hit by rockets fired from Lebanon.

"The Air Force detected about 10 rockets launched from Lebanese territory towards Haifa, hitting several buildings directly," it said, and indicated that the strikes caused considerable property damage.

The Yedioth Ahronoth reported before the statement, that a large fire in the Carmel area in central Haifa was burning that was caused by a rocket fired from southern Lebanon.

The Israel Hayom newspaper also reported that electricity was cut off in parts of Haifa due to the rocket strikes

Earlier Saturday, the Israeli military announced the detection of about 45 rockets fired from Lebanon toward the Haifa Bay and Galilee region, while Hezbollah claimed to have targeted the Stella Maris naval base.

Hezbollah confirmed it had launched a targeted rocket strike on the Stella Maris naval base in northern Israel, marking the third base it targeted that day.

The base, a strategic facility for maritime surveillance and monitoring along the northern coast, is located 35 kilometers (21 miles) from the Lebanese border, northwest of Haifa.

Israel launched an air campaign in Lebanon against what it claims are targets of the Hezbollah group in late September, in an escalation from a year of cross-border warfare.

More than 3,400 people have been killed, nearly 14,700 injured and more than 1 million displaced by Israeli attacks since last October, according to Lebanese health authorities.

Despite international warnings that the Middle East region was on the brink of a regional war, Tel Aviv expanded the conflict by launching an incursion into southern Lebanon on Oct. 1.
