Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi
Hadi has undergone a heart surgery in May
Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi will leave Riyadh for the United States on Wednesday to undergo medical checkups in Cleveland, a senior government official told Anadolu Agency.
“Hadi is in good health,” the source said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.
He said the Yemeni leader, who had undergone a heart surgery in May, was scheduled to visit the US a few months ago, but the trip was postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Hadi had made several trips to the US for medical examinations due to his heart condition.
Yemen has been engulfed by violence and instability since 2014, when Houthi rebels captured much of the country, including the capital Sanaa. A Saudi-led coalition aimed at reinstating the Yemeni government has worsened the situation, causing one of the world’s worst man-made humanitarian crisis, as millions are on the brink of starvation.
