Turkey unveils national war jet for first time at international Paris Airshow

Turkey’s national combat aircraft went on display at the world’s largest aerospace exhibition, the 17th international Paris Airshow, for the first time in France on Monday.

The model of the TF-X war jet, which took five months to build by the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), garnered a great deal of attention at the fair.

Turkey is the fourth country with the technology to manufacture fifth generation aircraft, following the U.S., Russia and China.

The TFX is a multi-role aircraft, designed maily for air-to-air roles while also capable of fulfilling air-to-surface roles.

Turkey's national combat aircraft is set to gradually replace the F-16 fighter jets, starting from the year 2030.

Ankara is now meeting 65 percent of the country's defense needs through its own local and national defense industry.

The airshow will continue until Sunday at Le Bourget airport.
