Palestinians are injured by explosion, according to local media

Three Palestinians were injured by an explosion on the eastern border of the Gaza Strip on Sunday, according to local media outlets.

The injuries to one of the Palestinians were serious, Palestinian Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said in a statement.

Al-Qidra did not mention how the Palestinians were injured.

No reason for the explosion was given in the local news.

Tension has been high across the Gaza border amid rallies demanding Palestinians' return to their homes in historical Palestine where they were driven out in 1948 to make way for the new state of Israel.

The rallies will culminate on Tuesday, May 15, the 70th anniversary of Israel's establishment -- an event Palestinians refer to as the "Nakba" or "the Catastrophe".

Since the rallies began on March 30, at least 47 Palestinian demonstrators have been killed and hundreds injured, according to Health Ministry figures.
