US President-elect Donald Trump announced Wednesday his nominee to be his special envoy for the Ukraine and Russia conflict.
"I am very pleased to nominate General Keith Kellogg to serve as Assistant to the President and Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He said Keith, a retired general, has led a distinguished military and business career, including serving in highly sensitive national security roles in his first administration.
"He was with me right from the beginning! Together, we will secure PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH, and Make America, and the World, SAFE AGAIN!" said the president-elect.
Kellogg served as chief of staff for the White House National Security Council during Trump's term from 2017 - 2021 and national security adviser to then-Vice President Mike Pence.
Trump has been critical of the financial support given to Ukraine by the US and American support could be drastically reduced when he takes office in January.
He has repeatedly said he wants to find a way to end the war.
Miroslav Jenca, UN assistant secretary-general for Europe, Central Asia and the Americas, warned earlier against a "dangerous cycle of escalation" in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, citing alarming developments that further imperil regional and global stability.
"We must reverse the dangerous cycle of escalation," said Jenca.
