Brett McGurk, the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter Daesh, mourned the death of Adnan Abu Amjad, the so-called commander of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK)-affiliated People’s Protection Units (YPG) terrorist organization in Manbij, Syria.
“[I] was honored to have met Abu Amjad. A warrior against [Daesh]. Here with his parents [he was] freed in Manbij. He gave his life yesterday in Raqqa. RIP,” McGurk scandalously tweeted on Wednesday.
McGurk, who has previously made anti-Turkey statements, did not join U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis’ official visit to Turkey last week to meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
YPG terrorists follow the leftist ideology of Abdullah Ocalan, the ringleader of the PKK that has fought a three-decade insurgency in Turkey.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States.
