Eurasia countries report new COVID-19 cases

Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Tajikistan, Armenia and Georgia register new figures

Coronavirus cases and fatalities continued to rise across Eurasian and Central Asian countries on Monday.

- Ukraine

Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said 1,008 more people tested positive for the virus over the past 24 hours, bringing the tally to 81,957.

He said 25 more fatalities raised the death toll to 1,922 while recoveries increased by 387 to reach 44,359.

Stepanov urged the public to strictly follow the government’s COVID-19 restrictions, which have been extended until Aug. 31.

- Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan reported 741 more virus cases, raising the total to 99,442, as recoveries rose by 250 to reach the total of 72,523.

A total of 1,159 patients have died in the Central Asian country so far, while treatment of 25,650 patients continue.

- Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan’s Health Ministry reported 356 more COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 30,820.

Four more fatalities took the death toll to 196, while recoveries increased by 229 to reach 22,042.

The country reported that 72% of the patients have recovered and that 8,582 people are still being treated in hospitals.

- Kyrgyzstan

Coronavirus infections in Kyrgyzstan have risen to 40,177, including 1,474 fatalities.

Over 32,000 people have recovered from the virus so far, a Health Ministry official said.

Turkish Airlines under an agreement with the Kyrgyz government has recently launched bi-weekly flights to the capital Bishkek.

- Tajikistan

Tajikistan’s total number of cases has reached 7,785, with 1,150 patients still under treatment. A total of 62 people died in the country, while 6,573 have recovered.

The country, meanwhile, announced that schools, universities, and kindergartens, which were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, will reopen on Aug. 17.

The Asian Development Bank recently approved a $2.5-million grant to Tajikistan from its Asia Pacific Disaster Response Fund (APDRF) to support the country's fight against the pandemic.

- Georgia

A total of 25 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Georgia over the past 24 hours, the country's Health Ministry reported on Monday.

The new cases raised the country’s total to 1,291, including 17 fatalities and 1,010 recoveries.

- Armenia

Armenia's COVID-19 case count swelled by 23 to reach 40,433.

Five more patients died over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 796, while recoveries are now up to 32,626.

Armenia has administered more than 173,000 coronavirus tests so far, according to official figures.
